I'll be announcing a release date in the not too distant future as well.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/72781812023-09-25T00:09:03-07:002023-10-16T07:58:01-07:00All the artwork
So this weekend I've nearly completed the CD packaging and booklet art. A couple small things left but nothing major. This week, I will focus on getting new web images made for banners, ads, and all the social media platforms and online music stations. With any time left over, I'll be starting some of the shooting some of the video for Fun House (what I can actually do here at the house) now so it won't be so much to do later.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/72714592023-09-10T23:08:49-07:002023-09-10T23:08:49-07:00Album cover shoot complete.
So we did the album cover shoot this weekend with photographer Victoria Shaffer. Still will have to get a few random shots for the inner booklet art. But nearly there. Got a few good promo shots out of it too.

Wednesday has Miguel coming to the studio to record his guitar part for Shall We Dance Tonight. Excited to hear what he has in store for the song.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/72650042023-08-29T00:32:21-07:002023-08-29T00:32:21-07:00Preparation for Video shoots.
9 songs are now complete for the new album. 3 more are nearly done. Unfortunately, I may be pushing out the release date now until February. In the mean time however, I am preparing for 2 video shoots for upcoming songs, Fun House & 80's Love Song. The logistics of doing two videos at once is kinda crazy but will be fun. The photoshoot for the album will in Sept 9th. Not too far off. Trying to take off as much weight as I can before then and then keep it off for the videos.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/72416242023-07-13T18:45:28-07:002023-07-13T18:45:29-07:00Album 5 news and updates
So here we are in July already. Wow times flies sometimes. Yikes. Going to get nearly all the rest of the parts recorded for this year's album done this month. Photoshoot for the album cover and promo's is set for first week of Sept. Going to try to shoot footage for one of the songs, “Fun House” during the same month. By mid-Sept I hope to have the album into manufacturing. That's not that long away. So much to do. But I am as confident as I am crazy. It will get done. I nearly have all the props for the video shoot purchased. Some items I have to actually make. That should take more than 3-4 days though. I'll check back in a couple weeks when the music has finished being recorded.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/72336532023-06-27T20:35:46-07:002023-06-27T20:35:46-07:00This year's album is progressing.
Starting to get some of the highly awaited guitar tracks in from people for the new songs. Everything is sounding amazing. Going to have to schedule the photoshoots for the cover soon.

I've also seen a lot of bands in the last 30 days. Amazing, all of the them and very inspirational.

I've continued writing new material for the 2024 album as well. I think I might be getting better at this. lol
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/72047292023-05-07T20:02:03-07:002023-05-07T20:02:03-07:00Song Writing Mode
As the other instrumentalists continue to record their parts for Album 5 (some of who have sent me rough versions already and let me tell you, these sound amazing), I am taking the time to actually write new songs for Album 6 (2024?).

Also this month, I'm going to be going to see a load of other artists. There are so many big name acts on tour right now. In the next few weeks I have tickets for: Sisters of Mercy, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Love & Rockets, the Cure, Duran Duran, Clan of Xymox, and then later this summer is Tears for Fears. Then this fall is Depeche Mode.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/71700782023-03-12T22:11:07-07:002023-03-12T22:11:07-07:00Next
Preliminary sequences and drums have been created for this year's album as well as all of my vocal parts. I'll be passing the songs off to the other guys probably this week. Even wrote two new songs for some future release as well that I really like. Both are dance songs.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/71419422023-01-22T20:23:43-08:002023-01-22T20:23:43-08:00More radio play!
Getting more radio play. I've been doing a lot of marketing of CTQ. I've also been writing new material for the 2023 album. Most of the songs are ready to be handed over to my guitarists for their work. I think this is going to be another amazing album. We shall see.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/71208852022-12-09T20:25:27-08:002022-12-09T20:25:27-08:00Omens video now Live
So the Omens video is now on YouTube. Hurrah! You can find it linked on the Video page on this site as well.

Still doing a lot of promotion for the new album. It's always a bit intimidating doing all of that with a new release. But also kinda exciting too. With that said, I've been heavily distracted at the same time with finishing the new video for Omens. I think it turned out great. Will probably release it Wed or Thurs of this week. Can't wait to share it.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/71135652022-11-30T00:46:42-08:002022-11-30T00:46:42-08:00"Calling the Quarters" is released!
The day has finally come. My 4th studio Johnny Forlorn album is out in the world. I really like these tracks and I hope you do too. More to come.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/71056022022-11-18T10:37:40-08:002022-11-18T10:37:41-08:00The new Love Spit Love cover has been released.
So many great covers on this tribute album. You should definitely give it a listen. I did a Love Spit Love song for this album. Click Here to Listen
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/71028502022-11-15T11:16:14-08:002022-11-15T11:16:15-08:00The Love Spit Love song debut is 3 days away
Only 3 days until the Love Spit Love cover, "It Hurts When I Laugh" releases. I had fun making this one and it turned out really well. This will be released on BandCamp.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70887052022-10-25T18:44:55-07:002022-10-25T18:44:55-07:00October Update
So there are a lot of things that are happening right now. First, the Love Spit Love cover that I did, "It Laughs When I Hurt", will be released on BandCamp on November 18th. This is being released by Coitus Interruptus Productions. The same group that released the SoftCell cover I did.

Second news, I got the CD's back from the manufacturer for "Calling the Quarters". They look great! Let the marketing now commence. heh.

Last: The video for the song, "Omens", off the new album is coming along nicely. I have all the background footage shot and assembled. Waiting on a couple more props for main video before I can start shooting that. More good news on this front, is that Kitten from Quick Eye Captures has agreed to help me with the video capturing. Here's to upping the quality.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70614212022-09-15T20:32:33-07:002022-09-15T20:32:33-07:00Now in manufacuring.
My 4th Johnny Forlorn album, Calling the Quarters, is now in manufacturing. Whew! I'm hoping to set a release date soon. Actually, it will probably be really close to one year from last years release date. This will once again be a combo CD and digital album.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70541982022-09-06T10:50:57-07:002022-09-06T10:50:57-07:00The new cover, "Where Evil Grows", is out!
My new cover song and digital single for, "Where Evil Grows", (originally by the Poppy Family in 1971) is now out and streaming everywhere. This was a fun song to do and has two of my favorite guitar slinging buddies on it, Greg Forschler and Steven Knouse. You can also own your own digital copy of it through Band Camp! Make sure to click the link above. Hope you all enjoy it and let me know.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70474622022-08-27T12:17:12-07:002022-08-27T12:17:12-07:00Summer Progress.
Just over a week to the release of, "Where Evil Grows". Really looking forward to this. I've created a 30 second promo video ad that will be slung around the web shortly.

Also, nearly complete with yet another cover for Coitus Interruptus Productions. This time a Love Spit Love song, "It Hurts When I Laugh". I've taken a Richard Butler song and made it synth pop. 🤪 Still debating if it needs guitar or if I should leave it all synths. You know, just because.

Mastering for the new album is happening on this Friday with Chris Hanzsek once again. Spending the day there to learn and help when I can. I need 1 more photoshoot finished before I have all the artwork I need for the cd packaging. That too is coming along nicely.

Overall, feeling very productive. I like the timelines and progress I've been making this summer.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70287542022-08-01T20:48:27-07:002022-08-01T20:48:27-07:00Release date set for, Where Evil Grows
So I've finished a cover song of, The Poppy Family's, "Where Evil Grows". Mastered and artwork turned into the distro company. I've set a release date for Tuesday, Sept 6th. This will give me time to do a small amount of marketing for the single. For now, this will be a digital only release. I've always thought that this was a fun song and have wanted to cover it for a long time now. I'll be happy when you get to hear it.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70173762022-07-18T15:37:34-07:002022-07-18T15:37:34-07:00Now on Sound Cloud!
You can hear the last album, Third Time Down, now on SoundCloud!

I did send a cover song off to mastering today however. Not going to spoil the surprise but I am looking forward to releasing this before the album.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/70092282022-07-06T21:59:26-07:002022-07-06T21:59:26-07:00Recording Guitars
So Steven Knouse and Greg Forschler have recorded their tracks for the next album. Soon I'll have the last tracks from Peter as well. I'm currently busy mixing and listening over and over again. Also I have all the pieces assembled now for the album cover. I need to schedule a photoshoot soonish for both the album artwork as well as promo shots. I'm really hoping to get the music into mastering this month and into manufacturing by the end of Aug. I know, I'm cutting it close.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/69814952022-05-27T13:25:30-07:002022-05-27T13:25:30-07:00Soft Cell tribute album is out now
So I was asked by Coitus Interruptus Productions to do a cover song for their Soft Cell tribute album, "Bleak Is Our Favorite Cliché". Seeing that all the great 80's songs had been already covered, I went with "Darker Times". Both Marc Almond and Dave Ball have been inspirations of mine over the years so I thrilled to be included. Check out my track and all the other amazing bands.

I can't wait to hear the results. Also getting ideas and the shape of the album cover and such planned out. Good things are coming.

The SoftCell tribute will be release on May 27th on BandCamp. This will include my own cover of, "Darker Times". I will be posting ad's for this in the next day or two on Social Media.

Excited to see how it is received (especially since it's not one of their 80's hits). It was still fun to perform it though.

In other news, I'm collaborating with Peter Jones and Greg Forschler once again from the last album, on a new album. Steve Knouse (a former band mate of mine in Faith & Disease) will be joining in on the fun as well on several songs. As it stands now, there will be 11 full-length new tracks and then 2 short instrumental pieces.

I've been gathering all the materials for an album cover shoot as well. Getting excited to do that shoot (not booked yet). I must get on the treadmill for a while first. ;-)
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/69160582022-03-07T11:37:04-08:002022-03-08T21:46:42-08:00New Video and Single released.
For now the release dates will be the 17th of Nov for the Single and Dec 3rd for the album.

Going to try to get more of the video shot this weekend. Wish me luck. heh.

Ready for manufacturing.
Artwork for the Single and the Album as well as some marketing posters are done. Getting the mastered finals back today with the tracking codes in place. Mechanical license secured for the cover song, Where Evil Grows. Should be able to send everything off to manufacturing early next week.

Right now, I'm trying to pick dates for the releases. Considering Fri Dec 3rd the date for the album. Probably a few weeks sooner for the single. That reminds me, gotta create the EPK (press kit) next week too.

I still don't have the video started for the single yet. Need to find some help with that. I'll have to start created the advertisements as well. CDBaby will be handling the actual placements.

Video has yet to be started, hopefully soon. Now waiting on mastering engineer to return from cross country bicycle trip. Then I will be able to send off to manufacturing, to the copyright office, and set a date for the release. Thinking early to mid November.

Also, had Steve Knouse put some guitar work down on a cover-single we recorded as well as a couple tracks for some forthcoming releases. Sounded great. Can't wait to share.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/66383192021-05-23T18:41:09-07:002021-05-23T18:41:09-07:00Getting ready for mastering and photoshoots.
The album has now been mixed and is ready for mastering. Still working on one of the Re-Mixes on the Re-Mixes of Third Time Down (the song). Also starting to get photoshoots lined up. Posted a couple new photos here on this page as well as my Facebook page. I've started the CD booklets too but some of that will have to wait until the last photo shoot is done.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/66137862021-04-25T22:19:04-07:002021-04-25T22:19:04-07:00Third Time Down album update
So everyone still yet to record (including myself) are vaccinated now. yay. All the recordings are in with the exception of a single song. Will be getting that hopefully finished up soon then it is off to mastering. The release should come in the formats of both streaming and CD. Considering a 12" of the title song with a dance mix of a "Third Time Down" and a 45 -7" single for the song "The Storm Inside".

Also, working on concepts not only for album artwork but for a couple videos as well.

So basically, still being really busy. Stay tuned...
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/65360202021-01-31T20:48:55-08:002021-01-31T20:48:55-08:00New Year
Welcome everyone into 2021. I've been writing and recording new music. I have two albums nearly finished now. I am waiting for vaccines to be given out so that I can bring in several musicians into my home studio. I've been fortunate to share files with many players online, but a few still have to make an appearance here. So I wait. Plus, all the photography has been hold for the same reason.

I have been getting some new gear for my studio in the mean time though: a Waldorf Blofeld, a Novation Bass Station II, and a Moog theremin.
Johnny Forlorntag:johnnyforlorn.com,2005:Post/63063062020-06-06T20:31:20-07:002020-06-06T20:31:20-07:00Recording and Website building during the Pandemic.
Been keeping busy recording the new album, getting this website together, getting in touch with photographers for when we are able to play with each other again. One of the things I like best however is the creative process. Despite being isolated, the time in my home studio has been very productive. In some ways, it is prohibitive collaborating with others, but in others, it has given me the time without distraction to come up with some amazing new songs. I'm very excited about them. I hope you will be too.
Johnny Forlorn
